Can you believe that Thanksgiving is tomorrow already?
Ten years ago, this would have totally freaked me out. I would have made a master list with all the TO DO’s, like polishing the silver and ironing the tablecloth.
Now I’m lucky if I even use a tablecloth, let alone iron it!
But I would get myself so worked up about every little detail being perfect, everyone having their favorite dishes, all the kids being dressed nicely, that I just didn’t enjoy myself. By the time dinner rolled around I was completely exhausted. While I ate I was already thinking about all the cleaning up I had to do.
Something had to give, and I didn’t want it to be my sanity!
It took me a few years to learn that less really is more, and that NOBODY has more fun on Thanksgiving, especially me, if I stress myself out.
I spend the entire month of November making some of my favorite dishes, and then that way when the big day rolls around I can concentrate on our favorites, the ones that it just wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without.
This is what’ll be on my table tomorrow:
Salad
Danish Blue Cheese and Pear Salad with Maple Vinaigrette
Entrée
Roasted Butter Herb Turkey with Gravy
Sides
Mashed Sweet Potatoes with Candied Bacon Bits
Skillet Stuffing
Grean Beans with Bacon Vinaigrette (youmight notice a theme with the bacon…)
Light and Flaky Buttermilk Biscuits
Cranberry Sauce
Desserts
The Perfect Apple Pie
David Lebovitz’s Homemade Vanilla Ie Cream
What dish is a must have on your Thanksgiving table?
